How does the guide work?
The guide is split into three parts:

- How to determine the vehicle type and approval route.

- The requirements for Type Approval.

- How to complete a programme to type approve a vehicle.

- Registered users will be guided through the ECWVTA process from start to finish, supported by a checklist of the legislation, information and application documents and tables, charts and lists of information for the user to create, based on their specific requirements.
Is there a fee to use the guide?
SMMT members can use SENTA free of charge. Non-members will be charged £900 for an annual subscription.

What is European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA)?
European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval allows a vehicle of a particular type (model) to be approved for use across all EU member states without the need for further testing in each country. Vehicle manufacturers will not be allowed to register a vehicle that does not have an approval certificate.
What type of company can benefit from using the SENTA guide?
Any vehicle manufacturer, converter or body builder can benefit from using the SENTA guide. In short, anyone who is looking to design and build a vehicle to be sold in the EU must comply with the ECWVTA legislation.
What type of vehicle does ECWVTA approval apply to?
All categories of vehicles - passenger cars, vans, trucks, light and heavy trailers, buses, coaches and special purpose vehicles.
When can I register/start using the system?
Companies can register their interest from today by e-mailing their details to senta@smmt.co.uk. The guide will be launched and available for use from the start of the Commercial Vehicle Operator Show on 13 April 2010.
When will the ECWVTA legislation apply to each vehicle category?
The dates vary from 2009 to 2014:

29 October 2010 Minibuses, buses and coaches built in one stage or first stage of a multi-stage build.

29 October 2011 Light vans and trucks built in one stage or first stage of a multi-stage build. Minibuses, buses and coaches built in multiple stages.

29 April 2012 Special purpose passenger vehicles (such as motor caravans, ambulances, hearses and armoured cars).

29 October 2012 Medium/heavy vans, trucks and trailers built in one stage or first stage of a multi-stage build.

29 April 2013 Light vans and trucks built in multiple stages.

29 October 2013 Trailers built in multiple stages.

29 October 2014 Medium and heavy trucks built in multiple stages and other special purpose vehicles, such as mobile cranes and trailer caravans.
